Valley of Death

In the fifties the bodies of nearly twenty Chinamen from a wrecked vessel were washed ashore near Pelican Point, south of the Norah Head Lighthouse. They were buried in a sandy gully, which has since been known as the Valley of Death. In the later years children picked up skulls and other bones which the seas had brought to light on the beach.

Pebbly Beach and Soldier's Point near the burial site. Looking towards Pelican Point. The site of many local shipwrecksBehind us is Mariners Bay and the Norah Head Lighthouse. Many people feel some sense of grimness here and despite the lively nature of Soldier’s Beach which is out of sight past Soldier’s Point this area sees limited traffic.
